Meyer Hobby Farm ยท Boise, Idaho
A little farm.
A whole lot of love.
21 ducks. One family. Fresh eggs raised with genuine care on our ยฝ-acre homestead.
How It All Started
Six ducklings changed everything.
In April 2024, the Meyer family drove to Dunlap Hatchery and came home with six tiny ducklings tucked in a box. What started as a fun backyard project turned into one of the most joyful chapters of our family's life.
We fell completely, utterly in love. With their waddles. Their curious eyes. The way they splashed in every puddle they could find. And the eggs โ those gorgeous, oversized, rich-yolked eggs โ we didn't expect to love those quite so much either.
We've been hooked ever since.
Growing the Flock
2024
Six ducklings come home from Dunlap Hatchery
Our first ducks โ a mix of Blue Swedish and Black Swedish โ arrive and immediately take over the backyard. The family is smitten. The yard will never be the same.
First eggs, first sales, first egg hunts
Our girls start laying โ and hiding their eggs in increasingly creative spots. Under the lavender. Behind the rose bush. In the deepest corner of the herb garden. Every morning becomes an adventure.
New adults join, Rouen and Cayuga breeds added
We welcomed more adult ducks to the flock, including beautiful Rouen and Cayuga breeds. The Cayuga ducks โ with their iridescent black-green feathers โ quickly became the flock celebrities.
Two hens go broody โ 13 ducklings hatch
Two of our Blue Swedish hens decided they had other plans. They went broody, sat their nests patiently, and hatched 13 ducklings all on their own. We watched in absolute amazement. The flock grew to 21.
21 ducks, one ยฝ-acre homestead, fresh eggs for Boise
Our flock free-ranges across our Boise property, eating premium feed, cracked corn, freeze-dried black fly larvae, and whatever they find in the garden. We update egg availability every morning, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Our Breeds
Blue Swedish
Our original breed. Calm, friendly, and wonderful layers of large greenish-blue eggs. Two of our Blues went broody in 2025 and hatched 13 ducklings all on their own.
Black Swedish
Striking black and white plumage with a gentle temperament. The Black Swedish are quiet, curious, and tend to be the first ones to investigate anything new in the yard.
Rouen
Beautiful mallard-patterned ducks with a stocky build and calm nature. Our Rouens lay large cream to greenish eggs and are among the most relaxed members of the flock.
Cayuga
The flock celebrities. Their feathers shimmer iridescent green and black in the sunlight. Cayugas are quiet, docile, and lay large eggs that start charcoal-black early in the season.
Their Home Base
The Quack Shack
Every flock needs a home, and ours has the best one on the block. We call it The Quack Shack โ a custom-built duck house where the flock sleeps safe each night.
During the day? They're free. They roam the full half-acre, splash in their pond, forage through the herb garden, and debate amongst themselves where to lay their eggs. (Spoiler: never in an obvious place.)
We feed them a high-protein all-flock feed, cracked corn, and freeze-dried black fly larvae โ plus whatever they find in the garden. Happy ducks. Happy eggs.
Every Morning
The daily egg hunt.
Unlike chickens, ducks lay wherever they please โ and they prefer to keep you guessing. Every morning, we head out on an egg hunt through the herb garden, around the pond, and through the flower beds.
Our ducks particularly love to lay in the shade of our lavender, tucked under the herbs, or hidden in the most unexpected spots. Every single egg is found by hand, inspected, and set aside for our customers.
You can order your eggs washed (ready for the fridge) or unwashed with the natural bloom intact. Unwashed eggs have a longer shelf life and can be stored at room temperature โ they'll just be a little earthy, which we think is part of the charm.
